Programs & Services
Personal Growth & Learning
At The Gathering Place we offer an array of educational and social programs in the areas of physical and mental health, employment, education, and art that lead to increased resourcefulness and marketability. We also work with a number of collaborative organizations and individuals to provide high-quality and meaningful opportunities for the people that we serve. Some of these programs include:
GED Preparation and Core Skills Tutoring
Our adult education programs provide a safe place to set realistic goals for individual success. We offer regular individualized study sessions where students work independently or one-on-one with volunteer tutors. Each year, about 10 women will obtain their GED, but many others will realize the opportunities that increased educational skills offer them. For more information about our GED program, contact Sunne Meyer at sunne@tgpdenver.org or 303-996-9035.
Computer Lab
For many women, coming to The Gathering Place may be their first opportunity to have hands-on experience with a computer. In addition to our open lab hours, we offer computer classes on basic computer skills, resume building, and finding and using information online. Volunteers are also available to help women compose correspondence and resumes, learn computer software and programs, use the Internet to locate resources, and experience the benefits of email. For more information about our computer lab, contact Sunne Meyer at sunne@tgpdenver.org or 303-996-9042.
Writers’ Group
Opportunities for creative expression are vital for personal reflection and rejuvenation of the spirit. Once a week, women at The Gathering Place have an opportunity to gather in a facilitated writers’ group where they share inspiration, creativity, and support. The materials produced in these sessions are published in a monthly newsletter called “Day by Day.”
We also have a group from the University of Denver's Writing Center that comes in once a week to work with women on writing skills. These sessions are one-on-one and typically focus on resume, letter, and technical writing. For more information about our writing programs, contact Sunne Meyer at sunne@tgpdenver.org or 303-996-9042.
