The Gathering Place is Denver’s only daytime drop-in center for women and children who are experiencing homelessness and poverty. We provide programming and services to an average of 260 women and children every day.
Our Mission
The Gathering Place exists to support women and their children experiencing homelessness and poverty by providing a safe daytime refuge and resources for self-sufficiency.
Our Philosophy
We believe that women, their children, and transgender individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty deserve a safe and caring place to re-establish their lives.
We also believe that everyone, regardless of circumstances, is worthy of respect and is a valuable human being just as they are.
It is not our place to judge anyone; The Gathering Place exists to offer women a safe haven, resources for self-sufficiency, and opportunities to acquire new skills.
Women who are able to meet their immediate and urgent needs can then call upon their inner resources and make positive life changes for themselves and their children.
Every day at The Gathering Place, women meet other women who share similar life experiences or circumstances. In each other’s company, these individuals share their stories, give each other advice, offer friendship and support, and build community.
In 2011, The Gathering Place:
- Recorded 61,970 visits by women and 6,734 visits by children.
- Provided more than 65,000 nutritious meals.
- Distributed 4,558 toiletry and hygiene bags.
- Distributed 21,450 diapers.
- Distributed 105,596 pounds of food.
- Tutored 79 different GED students.
- Served 2,135 different women in Bridget’s Boutique.
- Received volunteer time that equated to more than 12 full-time staff positions.

The Gathering Place aspires to be the premier organization serving women and children experiencing homelessness and poverty. We endeavor to be outspoken leaders and advocates, expanding our influence, and sharing our expertise to improve the quality of life for individuals and communities.
